In July, the Trump administration relegated endangered leatherback turtles, sea lions, and whales to mere collateral harm in its race to revenue from the oceans. Now, fisheries science is within the authorities’s crosshairs.

The Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) introduced new agency priorities final week that they are saying are a dedication to “chopping forms, modernizing our science, and placing our fishing communities first.” However consultants say the company’s actions will erode fish shares, threaten endangered species, and give up marine habitats to damaging trawlers.

The agency-level reforms function a self-proclaimed “operational roadmap” to fulfilling President Donald Trump’s “Restoring American Seafood Competitiveness” government order, signed in April 2025.
