SC rejects panel’s plea for six extra months to outline Aravali hills & ranges

NEW DELHI: “Why do not you merely say that the matter be heard after my retirement,” requested an exasperated CJI Surya Kant as a bench led by him outrightly declined a request from the high-powered committee for six extra months’ time to draft a complete definition of Aravali hills and ranges to guard the eco-sensitive space from mining and varied business actions and glued a Nov 30 deadline for submission of the ultimate report.Extra Solicitor Normal Aishwarya Bhati, showing for HPC, informed a bench of CJI, Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana that HPC would want six extra months to file an in depth report, which would come with finishing public hearings and contemplating views of stakeholders. CJI Kant is to retire on Feb 9. A bench led by him had stayed the operation of SC’s Nov 20 judgement accepting a really liberal definition of Aravali that had brought on an uproar amongst environmentalists.
