When Dunne and his crew first arrived in Coupeville, they painted the buildings on Entrance Avenue white to match the Cape Cod aesthetic. After filming, they had been reverted again to their authentic colours, which is how the buildings seem now. Even nonetheless, moseying about city is sort of a Sensible Magic scavenger hunt. There’s the fictional Verbena Botanicals store, which was housed contained in the 1866-era Sedge Constructing. And Toby’s Tavern, which was styled because the Catch and Fry for the film and occupies the Whidbey Mercantile constructing circa 1875. What’s now The Beary Scoop was the barbershop in Sensible Magic. And enjoyable reality: the hanging ice cream signal exterior Kapaw’s Iskreme was constructed as a film prop and stays to at the present time. (Somewhat devastating: the Owens Victorian residence was an architectural shell constructed by Roman and Williams and was torn down after filming.)
I pop contained in the chamber of commerce and clarify why I’m on the town. “Let me present you the place the sausage is made,” the lady working says with a smile as she unlocks a cupboard. Tickets included chocolate cake, entry to a ‘witchy wardrobe’ contest, and—most crucially—margaritas.

That night, I’m seated under a monastic Noguchi lantern on the resort’s restaurant, Passage, dealing with the open kitchen the place Michelin-starred chef Johnny Spero and his workforce put together a tasting menu that celebrates the area’s forests, waters, and farms. And in addition: Spero’s newly refreshed backyard out entrance, which smells of candy alyssum.
