The USA’ high automotive security regulator has opened an investigation into Tesla choice to launch its new Cybercab on public roads with no steering wheel or pedals.

The Nationwide Freeway Site visitors Security Administration (NHTSA) introduced Friday morning that it opened the probe mere hours after Tesla put the primary Cybercabs on the streets of Austin, Texas. Federal car security laws require guide controls like brake pedals, although the Division of Transportation lately proposed removing those requirements for autos which are designed to be autonomously pushed.

NHTSA stated Friday that Tesla informed the company that it self-certified the Cybercab as being compliant with the entire Federal Motor Car Security Requirements (FMVSS). It’s typical for automakers to self-certify whether or not their autos adjust to FMVSS.
